Stats: Amla and de Villiers break third wicket partnership record
Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers today created a world record by scoring the most number of runs for the third wicket in the history of ODI cricket in the third ODI at Johannesburg against Pakistan.
The poor Pakistan bowlers were at the receiving end of a real hammering for most of the innings against the world no.1 (Amla) and world no.2 (de Villiers) batsmen, according to the ICC ODI rankings.
They came together at 42/2, bailing the team out with a colossal partnership of 238 runs, surpassing Dravid and Tendulkar’s 237 at the 1999 World Cup against Kenya, contributing heavily in South Africa’s cause, as they ended up with 343/5 in their allotted 50 overs.
