Stats: Cook breaks Tendulkar's record for most Test losses in an away country

Australia v England - Fifth Test: Day 4
Cook became the youngest to 12,000 Test runs but this was far from a memorable Test

Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon ensured that Australia registered a comprehensive 4-0 victory over England after the hosts trounced the visitors by an innings and 123 runs on day five of the Sydney Test. Four wickets from Cummins and three from Lyon meant that England were bowled out for 180.

Resuming the final day with just six wickets in hand, the odds were stacked heavily against England and they couldn't do anything to avert another innings loss despite a valiant fifty from captain Joe Root. After 25 days of pain on the field, England were finally put out of their misery by Josh Hazlewood who bounced out James Anderson to pick up the final English wicket on day five.

With that wicket, Hazlewood finished the series in second place on the list of most wickets (22 along with Mitchell Starc), with only Pat Cummins (23) taking more.

Here are some interesting numbers from the final day's play:

0 - No player has lost more Tests than Alastair Cook in an away country. The England opener has lost 15 Tests in Australia, overtaking Sachin Tendulkar and Jack Hobbs, who both lost 14 Tests in Australia. Sachin lost 14 times in 20 Tests, Hobbs in 24 while Cook has lost 15 in 20.

1 - Australia became the first team to go through a five-match Test series with only 4 wicket-takers. England became the first team to have only four wicket-takers in a four-match series after their series against Pakistan in 2010.

2.95 - The overall run rate in the series was 2.95, the lowest since the 1994-95 series.

3 - After being trapped lbw by Nathan Lyon, Moeen Ali became the third batsman to be dismissed lbw by the same bowler 4 times in a Test series. He joins K Srikkanth (Wasim Akram) and W Watson (Waqar Younis) in that list.

5 - Moeen Ali became just the fifth batsman to be dismissed by the same bowler 7 times in a series. He is the third Englishman after David Gower (to Geoff Lawson) and Mike Atherton (to Glenn McGrath). He fell to Lyon seven times in the Ashes.

6 - Thanks to his tally of 687 runs in this Ashes, Steve Smith now occupies sixth spot on the list of most runs in an Ashes by an Australian batsman.

12 - This was the 12th time that England failed to win a Test in an Ashes series.

13 - England have lost 13 away Tests since January 2015, the most of any side in that period.

87 - The number of wickets taken by New South Wales bowlers in the series. All other Australian states combined took 0 wickets.

112.5 - The bowling average of England spinners in the Ashes was their worst in any series in which they bowled at least 200 overs.

193 - The 193 runs conceded by Mason Crane is the most by an England bowler on Test debut. It is the fifth highest for any bowler.

1994/95 - The last Ashes series before this one in which all five Tests went to all five days.
