Stats: Ind vs Aus- 1st T20I- India's First Win on Republic Day
Australia won the toss in the first T20I and elected to field first. India got off to a flying start courtesy Rohit Sharma’s brisk cameo and Australia's poor show of fielding. After openers were dismissed in the fifth over, Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina put up a record 134-run stand for 3rd wicket and gave Australia a formidable target of 189 to chase.
Australia were going smoothly during the first half of their innings having scored 89-1 from 8.5 overs. But once Smith fell on the last ball of 9th over, things started to change and Australia could never recover from what ensued after.
