Stats: India register seventh-highest run chase in T20Is

Raina’s unbeaten 49 sealed a thrilling victory

Apart from clinching their first-ever whitewash over Australia on their own turf, India’s chase of 198 was also the seventh-highest run chase in the history of T20Is. Although they had chased down totals in excess of 200 twice before, this will leave a sweet aftertaste as they achieved it on Australian soil.

After being set 198 to win, thanks to Shane Watson's unbeaten century, India got off to a flying start courtesy of Shikhar Dhawan and an erratic Shaun Tait. Although Dhawan fell soon after, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli both scored fifties and India were looking in complete control.

After the pair both fell, Kohli in unlucky fashion, India still needed 51 to win off 5.1 overs. Yuvraj Singh got off to a poor start and India looked as though they might lose the game, especially as they needed 17 off the final over.

But Yuvraj hit 11 runs off the first three balls, before Suresh Raina finished the game off with a boundary and sealed a 3-0 series win, which helped them climb up to No.1 in the T20I rankings.

India's run chase is now seventh on the list of highest chases in T20Is, just below South Africa, who chased down India’s 199 in the first T20I of their series in Dharamsala, few months ago.

In total, there have been seven successful chases of 200 or more in T20Is and three of those belong to India, who have the most such chases. South Africa have two and although West Indies have only one such chase, theirs was the biggest in T20I history.

When West Indies chased down South Africa's 231 in January 2015, that was the first and till date, only time, a team has chased anything in excess of 210. Second on that list of the highest run chase is India, who chased down Sri Lanka’s 206 in Mohali six years ago. In third place is South Africa, while New Zealand and India round off the top five.
