Stats: India vs Sri Lanka, 2nd T20I - India claim their third-biggest win in T20Is

Shikhar Dhawan’s 22-ball fifty helped India post massive total

India levelled the three-match T20I series after they beat Sri Lanka in the second T20I in Ranchi by 69 runs. Shikhar Dhawan’s maiden T20I fifty coupled with cameos from Suresh Raina and Hardik Pandya helped India post 196/6. The visitors never really recovered from their disastrous start, which saw the visitors lose both their openers inside the first four overs.

After being asked to bat, India's openers made hay as they got them off to a flier. Dhawan, in particular, was intent on making the most of a good pitch and he did, by scoring his maiden fifty. Although Rohit Sharma just fell short of his, Raina and Pandya set the platform for a score in excess off 200.

But a hat-trick from Thisara Perera’s final over meant India had to be content with 196/6. In response, the visitors got off to the worst possible start as they lost their opening two wickets in seven balls. They never really recovered from that, despite the best efforts of Dinesh Chandimal and Chamara Kapugedera.

Ravindra Jadeja removed Kapugedera and Chandimal in successive balls to leave the visitors at 86/5. Although they managed another mini-revival, Ashwin's return to the bowling brought him two wickets in his final over, before Jasprit Bumrah cleaned up the tail.

Here are the best stats from the match:

1 – This was Shikhar Dhawan’s maiden T20I fifty. His previous highest score was 42.

1 – Thisara Perera is the first bowler who took a hat-trick in T20Is but still ended on the losing side. All the other three bowlers helped their team win the match.

2 – Perera becomes only the second bowler, after Brett Lee to take a hat-trick in both ODIs and T20s. While Lee’s ODI and T20I hat-trick came against Kenya and Bangladesh, Perera’s came against Pakistan and India.

2 – This was only the second time in T20I history that a team’s top five have all scored 25 or more runs. Rohit scored 43, Dhawan got 51, Rahane hit 25, Raina and Pandya got 30 and 27 respectively. The only other time this has happened was in the game between Sri Lanka and West Indies last year, when Sri Lanka's top five all got 25 or more.

3 – This was India's third-biggest win in T20Is. Their 90-run win over England in Colombo and 73-run win over Australia in Dhaka were only two occasions when the margin of victory was higher, in terms of runs.

4 – Perera’s hat-trick, which was the first by a Sri Lankan bowler, was only the fourth in T20Is. Brett Lee, Jacob Oram and Tim Southee were the others to have taken a hat-trick in this format.

22 –  Dhawan’s fifty came off 22 balls and only four times has an Indian scored a fifty quicker than that.. Yuvraj Singh has scored three of those – off 12 balls and 20 balls (twice) and Gautam Gambhir has scored one, off just 19 balls.

39 – Yuvraj Singh missed out on a world record as he was finally dismissed for a duck in T20Is after 39 innings. Shoaib Malik with 40 innings now has the record for the most innings before first T20I duck.

75 – The 75-run opening partnership between Rohit and Dhawan was the fourth-best in T20Is in India. It was India’s sixth-highest opening partnership for India in T20Is. The highest is 136 between Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir against England in Durban.

196 – The total against Sri Lanka was India’s sixth-biggest in T20Is. It was also India’s second-highest against Sri Lanka, only behind their 211 in Mohali.
