Stats: India's biggest Test wins by runs
India’s 246-run win over England at Vizag in the second Test was not only their second-biggest win over England in terms of runs in Tests, but also their biggest Test win at home against England and was enough to make it into the list of India’s biggest Test wins in terms of runs.
India’s win over New Zealand in the third Test at Indore not only helped them retain their No.1 Test ranking and beat the visitors 3-0 but was also their second-biggest win in the history of Tests. Set a target of 475, New Zealand were bowled out for 153 to hand India a 321-run win.
Their 337-run win over South Africa in Delhi last year remains their biggest victory in Tests in terms of runs. The win over New Zealand just edges out their 320-run win over Australia at Mohali in 2008 and is only India’s third win by more than 300 runs in Tests.

Four of the top five biggest Test wins that India have managed have come at home. Their biggest overseas win came under the stewardship of Kapil Dev in 1986 at Leeds. They won that match by 279 runs courtesy of a brilliant century by Dilip Vengsarkar in the second innings, following his fighting fifty in the first.
Only four of India’s 10 biggest Test wins have come away from home and just three of them came outside Asia. The 321-run win over New Zealand is also their biggest win over the Blackcaps beating the previous best of 272 runs, which came at Auckland in 1968.
It is also interesting to note that the win over New Zealand in 1968 is the oldest Test match to make the top ten. In fact, six of the ten biggest Test wins that India have managed have all come since 2005 and four of those were achieved at home.

Following the win in the third Test against New Zealand, India’s 237-run win over West Indies in August 2016 at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia was just ousted from the top ten thanks to their win in Vizag in the second Test against England.
