Stats: India's performance in Test series with more than 3 matches
India are going into the match at Hyderabad having taken a 1-0 lead against Australia in the ongoing series. A win here will not only put India in a commanding position but would also ensure that India does not lose the series.
But Indian fans and more importantly the team needs to be cautious because history does not favour them at all. In fact, in a series of more than 3 Test matches involving India, their record has been dismal to say the least.
Longer series, comprising of more than three Tests, have never been India’s cup of tea. They have won three and lost 15 such series since 1981-82.
As can be seen from table below, India has notched up series win in such cases only when opposition have failed to win a single Test match. The series where the opposition has managed to win a Test match, they have gone on to complete a series win or drawn the series, the latest example being England last year.
So, India has to be careful to not allow Australia to sneak in and smell the blood in Hyderabad Test. Moreover, the pitch there may not be as spin-friendly as it was in Chennai.
