Stats: Martin Guptill becomes leading run-getter in T20Is
New Zealand star Martin Guptill has surpassed his former teammate Brendon McCullum as the leading run-getter in T20Is. The 31-year-old achieved the feat during the fifth game of the tri-nation series between New Zealand, England and Australia. Opening the innings with Colin Munro, who helped himself to a quickfire 33-ball 76, the duo stitched a first-wicket partnership of 132 in 10.2 overs.
Along the way, Guptill also notched up his second T20I hundred off only 49 balls. He had scored a 101 against South Africa in 2012. He eventually finished with 105 off 54 balls, getting out to Andrew Tye in the 17th over.
Guptill surpassed his former captain Brendon McCullum on the list: 'Baz' had scored 2140 runs in 71 games from 2005 to 2015 at a strike-rate of 136.21. Guptill overtook him in his 73rd T20I.
Third on the list is Indian captain Virat Kohli, who will soon play the three-match T20I series against South Africa. Kohli is currently at 1956 runs, and is followed by retired Sri Lankan Tillakaratne Dilshan, and Shoaib Malik on the list.
