Stats: Mominul Haque hits record ton as hosts secure draw

New Zealand v Bangladesh - 1st Test: Day 1

It was Mahmudullah’s 32nd birthday and he can be pleased with the outcome of the match, since the odds were stacked against his side. Bangladesh were in a tricky position at 81/3 but a 180-run stand between Mominul Haque and Liton Das propelled them to safety. This was an extremely high scoring match with just 24 wickets falling on the five days of the Test, without any weather interruptions.

Here’s a look at the important numbers from the fifth day of the Test match:-

1 – Mominul Haque is now the first Bangladeshi to score twin centuries in a Test match. Now all the ten Test nations have at least one player who achieved a twin century.

1 – Liton Das is the first ever wicket-keeper in the history of Test cricket to get dismissed for a duck as well as in the nineties in the two innings of a Test match.

2 – There were two partnerships of 150+ for Bangladesh in this Test match, the first time in their 105 game history. Mominul Haque, who shared a 234 run stand with Mushfiqur in the first innings, also added 180 with Liton Das today.

2 – Mahmudullah is only the second player after Jackie Grant to remain unbeaten in both the innings of his Test captaincy debut.

3 – This is only the third time Bangladesh drew a Test against Sri Lanka.

4 – Bangladesh have been involved 4 times in the last 7 occasions when both teams have scored 500+ in their respective first innings.

5 – This is only the fifth time when Bangladesh batted for 100 or more overs in both the innings of a Test match.

7 – Mahmudullah, on his birthday, became the seventh Bangladeshi batsman to cross the 2000 run mark in Test cricket. Earlier in the match, Mominul Haque became the sixth player.

9 – This is the ninth time Rangana Herath conceded 200+ runs in a Test match, curiously against eight different opponents.

10 – Mahmudullah, who is the 10th captain of Bangladesh, now has a draw on his captaincy debut.

21 – Tamim Iqbal needs 21 more runs in the next Test to become the first ever Bangladeshi to 4000 runs.

63.87 – Highest average runs per wicket in a Test match in Bangladesh. Chittagong now has 3 of the top-4 highest averages per wicket in a match on Bangladesh soil.

94 – Runs by Liton Das in the second innings, which is the second highest by a Bangladeshi wicket-keeper other than Mushfiqur Rahim. Other than Mushy, only Khaled Mashud scored more, with 103* against West Indies in 2004.

281 – Runs scored by Mominul Haque in this match, which are distantly the highest by a Bangladeshi in a Test match. His aggregate is 50 more than Tamim Iqbal, who is second in the list with 231 against Pakistan two years back.

388 – Number of balls batted by Mominul Haque in the match, which is the highest by a Bangladeshi in the past five years, and their fourth highest overall. Only Mohammad Ashraful, Nafees Iqbal and Aminul Islam have faced more balls than him.
