Stats: Most runs conceded by a bowler in IPL (in an innings)

Ishant Sharma holds the dubious record of conceding most runs by a bowler in IPL. It isn’t a surprise for those who have been following his career, and to make matters worse, all the top 5 on this list are Indian bowlers. Here’s the list:

Ishant Sharma bowling for the now defunct Deccan Chargers
Player Overs Runs Opposition Year
Ishant Sharma (SRH) 4 66 CSK 2013
Umesh Yadav (DD) 4 65 RCB 2013
Sandeep Sharma (KXIP) 4 65 SRH 2014
Varun Aaron (DD) 4 63 CSK 2012
Ashok Dinda (PW) 4 63 MI 2013

1. Ishant Sharma (66 runs)

Especially over the last couple of years, Ishant’s limited overs performances have been nothing short of mediocre. And this match was one of those instances to prove it. In his four overs he gave 66 runs which is the most runs conceded ever in the tournament’s history. CSK made 223 runs for the loss of 3 wickets and Sunrisers went on to lose by a huge margin of 77 runs.

2. Umesh Yadav (65 runs)

Another promising Indian seamer yet to find his feet in limited overs cricket. He is by far India’s fastest bowler, clocking 150 regularly, so hopefully he gets things right to force his way back in to the team. In this particular match, he came up against Kohli and de villiers who picked him apart for 65 runs in his alloted overs. Delhi made a spirited run chase while chasing 184 but fell short by 4 runs.

3. Sandeep Sharma (65 runs)

Sandeep can be forgiven since this was one of those odd matches for him where he was so expensive. He had a great tournament until then and that’s why an odd performance such as this should be neglected as it can happen even to the best in this format. Naman Ojha and Warner scored heavily off him, but in the end he had the last laugh as his side chased down the target of 206.

4. Varun Aaron (63 runs)

Another seamer in the mould of Umesh, Varun’s career has been consistently plagued by injuries. It’s every Indian fan’s wish to see them both bowling at each ends for India at extreme pace. For now, he needs to keep himself fit. He has had a good IPL 7 and he would be hoping that it would kickstart a nice season for him going ahead. In this match Vijay and Bravo punished him to help CSK make 222 for 5 and in reply all DD could manage was 136.

5. Ashok Dinda (63 runs)

Dinda has been termed as a run leaking machine for a long time now and this match did no favours for him. Playing for the Pune Warriors against the Mumbai Indians, he came up against a rampaging Rohit Sharma who along with his team mates took him apart for 63 runs in his four overs. In the end his side surrendered without a fight and the Mumbai Indians picked up a huge win.
