Adam Gilchrist has hit the most sixes in Test cricket. We will now take a look at the top 5 list.
Player | Matches | Runs | Sixes |
Adam Gilchrist (AUS) | 96 | 5570 | 100 |
Jacques Kallis (SA) | 166 | 13289 | 97 |
Virender Sehwag (IND) | 104 | 8586 | 91 |
Chris Gayle (WI) | 99 | 6933 | 90 |
Brian Lara (WI) | 131 | 11953 | 88 |
1. Adam Gilchrist (100 sixes)
The retired Australian keeper dubbed as the greatest wicket keeper batsman of all time is on top of the mountain. He is also the only cricketer to have hit 100 sixes in Test Cricket. His favourite six hitting shot was the slog sweep he employs against the spinners and also the pull stroke.
2. Jacques Kallis (97 sixes)
He was widely tipped to go past Gilly, but surprised one and all with his decision to retire from Test cricket. He has 97 sixes to his name in 166 Test matches. Even though he is known for having a low strike rate, he does love hitting those big sixes. He also has 137 sixes in his one day career.
3. Virender Sehwag (91 sixes)
Had bad form not derailed his career, Viru might have broken the record by now. It’s been some time since he played a Test for India and he still has hopes of making a comeback. If he does, then there’s a huge chance that he will go on to break that record as he is only 10 hits away from breaking it.
4. Chris Gayle (90 sixes)
Among all the current players, he is the only one with a realistic chance of breaking the record. In 99 Tests, he has hit 90 sixes. He is still going strong and if he plays ten more Tests for the carribeans, then you can almost be certain that Gilly will move a spot down.
5. Brian Lara (88 sixes)
Lara’s sixes are a pure delight to watch. A spinner can be almost certain to get hit by Lara every time he bowls at him. In 131 Tests, he has hit 88 sixes and is one ahead of Chris Cairns.
