Stats: ODI double centuries - Some stats and tidbits
First up, India have managed to win the ODI series 3-2-2. It was a tough contest, but in the end Australia and Rain just fell a tad short and let the Men in Blue canter home with yet another series win, and by doing so further cement their place as the Number One ODI team.
So I woke up this morning, after a good night’s sleep (something I’ve been lacking for a good bit of time), and was just updating my Facebook page with some posts and pics congratulating my countrymen, and also giving the Ozzies a little pat on the back. Also, to acknowledge Rohit Sharma’s sublime double-century (and also bring back the memories of Sehwag and Sachin’s quarto-fifties), I decided to make a little status update listing a couple of unique achievements about the innings of each of these legends. However, I found that I was able to find WAY too many stats for a Facebook post, so I decided to do one here instead! You will find that some of these facts are incredibly random, so if you’re looking for “out of the box” stats, you’re in luck. Hope you enjoy.
- Sachin Tendulkar is the only player to score one and remain not out. He also hit the fewest sixes (3) for anyone scoring 200, and also is the only one who didn’t lose half his side (only 3 wickets fell) while doing it.
- Virender Sehwag is the only player who hasn’t played for Mumbai Indians to score one. His 200 is also the fastest (140 balls), and he is the only one to score one as captain.
- Rohit Sharma is the only player to score one while hitting more than 10 sixes, but not hit 25 fours. His 200 was also the only one that didn’t get India past 400, and also the only one that didn’t give India a win by 153 runs (yes, that exact number). His knock also involved the most sixes (16) for anyone scoring 200 (or anyone playing an ODI or T20 innings, for that matter).
- MS Dhoni has been at the other end of the pitch most number of times when someone has made one (he was there for Sachin’s and Rohit’s). He also scored half-centuries on both those instances.
- Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja and Suresh Raina are the only players in the world to have been in the playing XI of all three double-centurions when they made them.
- All three of them have been made by Indian openers, and all three have been made during the winter season (Sachin- February, Sehwag – December, Rohit – November).
- In all three instances, the opening bowler for the opposition has been hit at more than 8 an over, and been a part of Hyderabad’s IPL franchise at some stage (Sachin’s – Dale Steyn, Sehwag’s – Kemar Roach, and Rohit’s – Clint McKay).
- In all three instances, the opposition was bowled out in less than 50 overs (RSA in 42.5 during SRT’s, WI in 49.2 during Viru’s and AUS in 45.1 during Ro’s).
