Stats: Pakistan Super League 2016 in numbers
The first season of the Pakistan Super League culminated on February 23, with Islamabad United defeating Quetta Gladiators in the final. Throughout the tournament, we witnessed some breathtaking action from Pakistani as well as overseas players, and also saw the blossoming of some young Pakistani cricketers.
Here are some performances of the players expressed in terms of numbers.
4- Number of 50+ scores for Umar Akmal in PSL- which are the most for any batsman. Tamim Iqbal, Delport and Brad Haddin, all have three such scores.
5.59- The economy of Mohammad Sami in PSL- which is best for any bowler in PSL with a minimum of 2 overs.
7- Catches taken by Umar Akmal, which are the most for any fielder, other than keepers in this tournament.
10- Number of dismissals affected by each – Kamran Akmal and Muhammad Rizwan- which are most for any keeper in PSL.
11.50- The bowling average of Mohammad Sami in PSL- which is best for any bowler. He got 12 wickets from 24.4 overs and gave away 138 runs. Grant Elliot got 11 wickets at an average of 12.18 and is second on this list.
16- Wickets taken by Andre Russell in PSL in 10 innings, which are the most for any bowler. Wahab Riaz took 15 and Mohammad Nawaz got his name against 13 wickets.
6/16- The figures of Ravi Bopara in a match against Qalandars at Sharjah on 12 February 2016, which are best for any bowler in PSL. Afridi’s 5-7 and Sami’s 5-8 are next on this list, and they are only three instances when a bowler took 5-wicket haul.
17- Extras conceded by Peshawar Zalmi against Islamabad United on 5 February 2016, which are the most in a single innings in PSL. The next entry also belongs to the Zalmis who gave away 15 extras against Qalandars on 13th Feb 2016.
19- Number of Sixes struck by Sharjeel Khan which are most by any batsman. Umar Akmal struck 17 sixes and is second on this list.
34- Number of balls that were left to be bowled when Islamabad United chased down the target of 112 runs set by Karachi Kings in the Eliminator. It was the highest margin of victory in terms of numbers of balls left in the tournament.
0/57 – The bowling figures of Anwar Ali against Qalandars on 16 February 2016, which are worst figures for any bowler in PSL. Interestingly, 2nd on this infamous list is also a Gladiators bowler – Umar Gul-- who gave away 50 runs for 0 wickets, also against Qalandars but in a different game (8 February 2016).
Third on this list is Zulfiqar Babar, again from Quetta Gladiators, who gave away 49 runs and those too, against Qalandars, in the match where Anwar Ali recorded 57-0.
63- Runs is the highest margin by which a team won a game in PSL- It happened in the Qalandars vs Gladiators match where chasing 195, Qalandars were dismissed for 131.
83.75- The batting average of Umar Akmal in PSL- it is the highest batting average for any player in this edition. Tamim Iqbal made runs at an average of 66.75 and is second on the list.
117- is the highest individual score and the only century in PSL which belongs to Sharjeel Khan. Next on the list is Umar Akmal’s 93 against Quetta Gladiators.
153- Runs Shane Watson and Sharjeel Khan made for 1st wicket against Qalandars at Sharjah on 10th Feb 2016 which is the highest partnership for any wicket in PSL. There have been five instances when 100 plus runs were collected for any wicket in PSL, and the only player to be a part of two such partnerships is Sharjeel Khan. He collected 108 runs with Dwayne Smith against Zalmis in Qualifier Match.
158.18- The strike rate at which Shahid Afridi made 87 runs is the highest strike rate for any batsman with a minimum of 50 runs. Umar AKmal’s 335 runs came at a strike rate of
157.27 and he follows Afridi very closely.
203/8- The Highest total in the tournament which was achieved by Quetta Gladiators when they chased down 202 against Lahore Qalandars in the league match. 201-2 and 194-3 are next highest totals- both made by Qalandars and both ironically against Quetta Gladiators.
247- Number of sixes struck by batsmen in PSL.
259- Wickets dismissed in the tournament.
335- Runs made by Umar Akmal in 7 Innings in PSL- which are most for any batsman. He is closely followed by Ravi Bopara who made 329 runs in 8 innings.
404- is the highest match aggregate of PSL which came in a match against Lahore Qalandars and Quetta Gladiators. Qalandars made 201-2 which was chased down on the last ball by Quetta Gladiators.
566- Number of Fours hit by batsmen in PSL.
6344- Runs were made in this tournament.
