Stats: Prithvi Shaw overtakes Virat Kohli and Unmukt Chand; India U-19 make history

Ente

History was created at Mount Maunganui today as the Indian U-19 team outclassed the Australians to lift a record fourth ICC U-19 World Cup trophy.

Considered favourites long before the commencement of the tournament, the side led by Prithvi Shaw coasted through the two weeks, remaining unbeaten at the end.

While it was vice-captain Shubman Gill who carried the Indian batting on his shoulders throughout the group stages and in the semi-final, India found a new hero in the final as Manjot Kalra's unbeaten century guided them to victory.

On a flat batting track, Australia won the toss and elected to bat, but regretted that decision, losing three wickets for just 59. While Jonathan Merlo steadied the ship, he found no support at the other end, and Australia collapsed for just 216.

In reply, contributions from Shaw, Gill and Desai, along with Kalra's century meant India chased down the target with over 10 overs to spare, sparking off scenes of jubilation in the camp.

Many records tumbled in this match and here is a look at a few of them:

1 - Anukul Roy's two-wicket haul in the final took him to the top of the wicket-takers list (joint with Qais Ahmad and Faisal Jamkhandi) with 14 scalps to his name. He is the first Indian to finish at the top of the wicket-takers chart in an U-19 World Cup.

1 - The first time Shubman Gill was dismissed in the tournament before he reached his half-century.

4 - With their win today, India now have a record four U-19 World Cup titles, the most for any team. Australia stand second with three.

5 - India have faced Australia five times in the knockout stages of an U-19 tournament, emerging victorious on all five occasions.

14 - Anukul Roy's tally of 14 wickets is the joint-highest in the tournament.

15 - India have won 15 of their last 17 youth ODIs against Australia.

18 - Shaw became the youngest captain to win an U-19 World Cup, at 18 years and 86 days. The previous record was held by Mitchell March (18 years, 102 days).

100 - Prithvi Shaw ends his U-19 career with a 100% record as captain, equalling Virat Kohli's feat in the process.

124 - Shubman Gill's average at the end of the tournament. Gill notched up a century and three fifties across six matches.

261 - The most runs scored by an Indian captain in an U-19 World Cup. Shaw went past Unmukt Chand and Virat Kohli.

372 - Shubman Gill's 372 runs in the tournament are the second highest for India in an U-19 World Cup. Shikhar Dhawan still rules the roost with 505.
