Stats & Records: ICC World T20 2016, India v New Zealand - Kiwi spinners create T20I record to defeat hosts India by 47 runs

New Zealand put in a dominating performance to hand India a humiliating defeat

The ICC World T20 2016 started off with great expectations with hosts India coming into the tournament as the favourites. India, always having started off their World T20 campaigns with a win, did not quite get the start they were looking for at Nagpur as New Zealand won by 47 runs.

After winning the toss, New Zealand put up a total of 126 in 20 overs. At the time, it seemed like just a par score and India being good players of spin were expected to win the match. However, a supreme bowling performance from the Kiwis gave them a shocking win over the hosts, who were bowled out for just 79 runs.

New Zealand's choice of picking three spinners in the line-up proved to be a masterstroke as spinners picked up 9 wickets for the Kiwis. Mitchell Santner had a World T20 debut to remember as he picked up 4/11 in 4 overs.
