Stats: Rohit Sharma breaks world record for most international sixes in a season
Rohit Sharma's maiden ODI century in South Africa along with six wickets from the wrist spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal helped India claim their first ODI series win in South Africa. India beat South Africa by 73 runs in the fifth ODI at Port Elizabeth and took a 4-1 lead in the six-match ODI series.
After winning the toss, the Proteas elected to field but it was Shikhar Dhawan who got India off to a blistering start. Although both Dhawan and captain Virat Kohli were dismissed in the thirties, Rohit scored his 17th ODI century and ensured that India posted 274/7 in their 50 overs despite losing a flurry of wickets towards the end.
In reply, the Proteas got off to a solid start but lost their way after Aiden Markram's dismissal, losing their first three wickets for 13 runs in the space of 20 balls. Despite Hashim Amla's half-century, the hosts never got ahead of the game and eventually fell to India's wrist spin duo and lost the game by 73 runs.
Here are some interesting numbers from the fifth ODI:
0 - No player has hit more sixes in a season than Rohit Sharma. The 30-year-old has 57 sixes in the 2017-18 season, beating Martin Guptill's previous record of 56, set in the 2015/16 season.
1 - This is the first time that India have won an ODI series in South Africa. This was also their first win at Port Elizabeth after losses in their first five games at the venue (4 against South Africa and 1 against Kenya).
2 - This is only the second time that an Asian side has won an ODI series in South Africa. Pakistan were the first, when they beat South Africa in 2013.
3 - Virat Kohli crossed 400 runs in the ODI series, which makes it only the third time that an Indian has scored more than 400 in a bilateral ODI series.
7 - Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been involved in 7 ODI run outs. Ganguly-Tendulkar (9) are the only Indian pair to be involved in more ODI run-outs.
8 - MS Dhoni is in eighth place on the list of most dismissals as a wicketkeeper in List A cricket with 500 dismissals.
9 - India have now won nine consecutive bilateral ODI series. Only West Indies (14 from May 1980 to March 1988)) have won more consecutive bilateral ODI series.
10 - Virat Kohli has scored 429 runs in the ODI series. Only 10 players have scored more than Kohli's tally in a bilateral ODI series and the Indian captain still has an ODI to go.
13 - Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been involved in 13 century partnerships in ODIs in just 62 stands together. Only Sachin Tendulkar-Sourav Ganguly (26) have had more 100+ partnerships for India in ODIs.
15 - Rohit scored his 15th century as opener. Among Indian players, only Sachin (45) and Ganguly (19) have scored more centuries as ODI openers.
28 - Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav have taken 28 wickets in this series. That is the highest tally for Indian spinners in a bilateral ODI series, beating the previous record of 27 against England in 2006.
265 - Rohit Sharma now has 265 international sixes for India. He went past Sachin (264) into second place on the list of most international sixes for India. Only MS Dhoni (338) has more.
