Stats: Rohit Sharma reaches special landmark; joins elite list of Indian cricketers
Indian batsman Rohit Sharma etched his name in the history books during the 4th ODI against New Zealand at Hamilton on Thursday.
The stand-in captain of the Indian team, who has a specialization in scoring double tons, completed a 'double century' of ODI matches when he took the field against the Blackcaps at Seddon Park. In doing so, he has become the 14th cricketer to play 200 ODIs for India.
Rohit played his first ODI match against Ireland in Belfast on June 23rd of 2007. He has scored 7806 runs from 200 matches at an average of 47.88 with 22 centuries and 39 half-centuries.
Rohit was in sublime form during the first three ODIs in the ongoing series against New Zealand as he scored 160 runs to help shape India's dominance with the bat.
Unfortunately, under swing-friendly conditions at Seddon Park, Rohit could not do much and got out on a low score of 7 off 23 balls in the fourth ODI.
After winning the toss, the New Zealand bowlers came out all guns blazing and razed the in-form Indian batting line-up to 92 in 30.5 overs. The hosts then chased down the total easily in 14.4 overs with 8 wickets in hand.
On the other hand, Rohit will also aim to strengthen his good record as a stand-in captain when the final ODI begins on Sunday.
In the end, if we talk about the Indian players with more than 200 matches in their careers, Sachin Tendulkar leads the way with 463 ODIs for India. He is followed by greats like Rahul Dravid, Mohammad Azharuddin, MS Dhoni and Sourav Ganguly.
Here are the players who have completed 200 or more ODI matches for India. The matches of those who played for other teams like Asia XI and World XI are not included in this list.
