Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka, 2018: Stats from day two of the second Test.
Carrying on from day 1 of the second est against Bangladesh at Dhaka, Sri Lankan bowlers made short work of what was remaining of the Bangladeshi batting lineup, bowling out the visitors for a meager score of 110 with debutant Akila Dananjaya ripping through the lower-order. Despite Mustafizur Rahman and the spinners combining to claim eight wickets before close of play, it would indeed take a special effort from here on for Bangladesh to save the Test match as well as the series. Adding another fifty to his kitty, Roshen Silva is enjoying a purple patch in his short international career in the longest format of the game, after a getting out on a duck on debut. Unfazed by wickets consistently tumbling at the other end, the Sri Lankan batsman steered his side to a formidable lead of 312 runs before close of play.
Here’s a look at the important numbers from the second day of the Test match.
1 – Roshen Silva is now the first batsman to follow a duck on Test debut with four consecutive 50+ scores.
1 – This is the first time Dinesh Chandimal failed to cross 40 in either innings of a Test match against Bangladesh, out of a total of eight matches played against them. Despite a double failure today, Chandimal still averages 77.7 against Bangladesh.
1 – Only one fielder or keeper took a catch or a stumping in Sri Lanka’s first innings, a rarity in modern day cricket. Four batsmen were clean bowled, two were caught and bowled, two were LBW and two were run-out.
3 – Bangladesh made only three runs while losing their last four wickets. This is their second worst collapse following the sixth wicket after the Harare match in 2013, where they lost their last four wickets without scoring a single run.
8 – Akila Dananjaya becomes the eighth Sri Lankan to score a golden duck on debut Test innings - after Ekkutige Fernando, Prabath Nissanka, Chamara Kapugadera, Malinda Warnapura, Thilan Paranavitana, Lahiru Kumara and Dasun Shanaka.
8 – This is only the second time Sabbir Rahman batted as low as No.8 in his Test career. He also batted at No.8 on his debut Test innings in 2016, when he hit a 19 ball 32. He was out for a three-ball duck today.
28 – Before today, Rangana Herath took a wicket in each of his 28 previous innings at the subcontinent whenever he bowled a minimum of 10 overs. The last time he went wicketless on the subcontinent was against India in 2015 at RPS Colombo.
99 – Roshen Silva’s phenomenal average in Test cricket, with scores of 0, 74*, 109, 56 and 58*. If he scores 3 more runs and remains not-out at the end of the innings, his average would cross 100.
110 – Bangladesh’s score in their first innings, which is their lowest in a home Test match since 2003. It is their fifth lowest total at home, and their previous four lower home totals have also come at Dhaka.
317 – The highest target chased in fourth innings of a Test match in Bangladesh, which was by New Zealand in 2008. With a lead of 312 and two wickets left, it is Sri Lanka's game to lose.
