Stats: Shakib Al Hasan - Quickest to complete double of 4000 runs and 200 wickets in ODIs
In the third ODI against South Africa at Chittagong where Bangladesh completed the series win by a margin of 2-1, two of the most experienced Bangladesh players reached the milestones of 200 wickets in their ODI career.
First it was Shakib Al Hasan who got there with his second wicket of the match dismissing the opposition skipper Hashim Amla. The other was Mashrafe Mortaza who just one wicket to reach there. He did it by getting out David Miller as his 200th wicket of his ODI career. Both the bowlers had played almost an equal number of ODIs. It was Shakib Al Hasan’s 156th ODI whereas 157th for Mashrafe Mortaza.
Apart from becoming the second bowler from Bangladesh to take 200 ODI wickets, Shakib Al Hasan also reached an important feat. He became the seventh player to complete the double of scoring 4000 runs with the bat and picking up 200 wickets with the ball in ODIs. Interestingly, he got there very quickly than the other six in terms of matches.
Shakib Al Hasan had completed 4000 runs in ODIs on February 18, 2015 in his 142nd match. He had 184 wickets at that time. He got his 200th wicket on July 15, 2015 in his 156th ODI to complete this all-rounding double.
The first to achieve this was Sanath Jayasuriya in 2001 in his 235th ODI, 79 ODIs more than Shakib Al Hasan’s. All the other six players took more than 200 ODI matches to reach this feat; the quickest amongst them was Abdul Razzaq doing so in his 204th match.
The table below lists the details of those seven players.

Jacques Kallis completed 4000 runs in his 118th ODI but played more 103 matches to complete 200 wickets. Shakib Al Hasan’s feats where just 14 matches apart.
Shakib Al Hasan has 2741 runs and 146 wickets in ODIs in 40 tests. In about 5-10 test matches, he may complete 3000 runs and 150 wickets in Tests and will be the 14th to do so. He has 843 runs and 45 wickets in 38 T20Is and should complete the double of 1000 runs and 50 wickets in next 5-10 matches. Shahid Afridi is the only player currently to take more than 50 wickets and has scored 1000 runs but completed the double in 69 matches.
So is Shakib Al Hasan the best all-rounder in present generation who is scoring and taking wickets at almost an equal rate in all formats?
