Stats: Shivnarine Chanderpaul eclipses Sachin Tendulkar with most unbeaten Test centuries
Veteran West Indian batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul on Friday eclipsed Indian great Sachin Tendulkar as the batsman with the most unbeaten Test centuries. His 122 not out against New Zealand in the third Test was his 17th unbeaten Test hundred, while his overall tally reached to 29.
The West Indian also overtook Australian Allan Border as the 6th highest all-time run scorer in Test cricket. He now has 11,199 runs fro 153 Tests, Border had scored 11,174 runs from 156 Tests before retiring in March 1994, the same month Chanderpaul made his debut.
The unorthodox West Indian, whose front-on stance would not be found in any coaching manual, has blossomed since Lara’s retirement in 2007. When playing in the Lara years, Chanderpaul averaged 44.60 in 101 Tests, but in 52 Tests since he has averaged a shade under 70.
