Stats: Virat Kohli and Jayant Yadav break the record for highest 8th wicket partnership for India

Kohli and Yadav have been in supreme form

The batting duo of Indian Test captain Virat Kohli and all-rounder Jayant Yadav have gone on to break the highest ever 8th wicket partnership for India in Tests. Their  partnership of 241 runs beat the previous best (161) which was held by  two former Test captains Anil Kumble and Mohammad Azharuddin way back in 1996 against South Africa at the Eden Gardens in Kolkatta. This partnership of theirs is also the highest ever 8th wicket stand at the Wankhede stadium.

Kohli and Jayant were on a whole different level since yesterday. They decimated the English bowlers and have put India in a prime position to win the 4th Test and seal the series before travelling to Chennai for the 5th and final Test.

While Kohli’s brilliant batting performance comes as no surprise, Jayant, who is playing in his 3rd  Test for India was a class apart. He showed his skill with his masterful strokes around the ground and has had an answer to everything the English bowlers threw at him. He became the first Indian no. 9 batsman to score a century in Test cricket. He was eventually dismissed for 104.

Kohli, who reached his third double century has become the third batsman in the history of test cricket to score  double centuries in three consecutive series. His previous two double centuries came against New Zealand and West Indies. He also became the first Indian to score three double centuries in a calendar year.

After batting out the entire morning session without losing a single wicket, India were bowled out shortly after lunch after putting on 631 runs on the board and extended their lead by 231 runs.

Here is a list of the best partnerships by wicket for India in test matches. Vinoo Mankad and Pankaj Roy’s partnership continues to be the highest ever partnership for India in Tests.
