Stats: Virat Kohli becomes the first Indian captain to score two Test double centuries
Virat Kohli became the first Indian captain to score two double centuries in Tests after scoring his second 200, against New Zealand in the third Test at Indore. Earlier in the year, he became the first Indian captain to score an overseas Test double century and now courtesy of his double ton against New Zealand, he becomes the first Indian captain to score two double tons.
Earlier in 2016, when Kohli registered his maiden Test double century, he became only the fifth Indian captain to score a double ton in Tests after MAK Pataudi, Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni.

All four of them just have a single double century to their name while Kohli now has two and eventually finished on 211 just after Tea on day two against New Zealand and just fell short of the record for the highest score by an Indian captain, which is currently held by MS Dhoni, who scored 224 against Australia at Chennai in 2013.
On the overall list of double centuries, however, he still has some way to go as he is nowhere near the Indian or the world record. As far as the world record for most double centuries go, it is held by Don Bradman, with 12 while Kumar Sangakkara is second on that list with 11 and is the only other batsman apart from Bradman to be in double digits as far as Test double centuries scored are concerned.
While as captain, Brian Lara leads the pack with five Test double centuries. Kohli joined Hashim amla, Ricky Ponting, Javed Miandad and Allan Border with two double centuries as Test captain. Here is the complete list.
