Virat Kohli's 33rd ODI century helped India take a 1-0 lead over South Africa after beating the hosts by six wickets in the first ODI at Durban. India's spin twins of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal helped restrict the Proteas to 269/8. However, Kohli's century and Ajinkya Rahane's 79 helped India canter to a victory with 27 balls to spare.

Here are some interesting numbers from the first ODI:

0 - No current player has more centuries in international cricket than Virat Kohli. He now has 54 centuries, level with Hashim Amla (54).

1 - This was Virat Kohli's first ODI century in South Africa.

2 - Only two players have more centuries as ODI captain than Kohli (11). Ricky Ponting has 22 and AB de Villiers has 13.

3 - Virat Kohli becomes the third player after Sachin Tendulkar and Sanath Jayasuriya to score ODI centuries in nine countries (first 10 full members). Kohli is yet to play an ODI in Pakistan and while Tendulkar missed out in West Indies, Jayasuriya didn't score one in Zimbabwe.

4 - This was only the fourth time that both captains had scored a century in the same ODI. William Porterfield and Eoin Morgan became the first, when they did it in 2013. Since then, Kohli and Rahim scored a century in an ODI at Fatullah in 2014 and in the same year, Kohli and Angelo Mathews scored a century in Ranchi.

5 - Ajinkya Rahane becomes only the third Indian batsman to have five successive 50+ scores in ODIs after Sachin Tendulkar (1994) and Virat Kohli (2012 and 2013).

5 - Morne Morkel has dismissed Rohit five times in ODIs. Only Angelo Mathews (7) has dismissed him more often in the format.

11 - Virat Kohli now has 11 ODI centuries as captain in just 41 innings. Courtesy of his century, he equalled Sourav Ganguly's record of most ODI centuries as an Indian captain. Ganguly took 142 innings while Kohli got there in just 41.

17 - India ended South Africa's streak of 17 consecutive ODI wins at home. No other country has won more than 12, but South Africa won the last two ODIs against England, beat Ireland, whitewashed Australia and Sri Lanka 5-0 and Bangladesh 3-0 before this loss in Durban.

18 - Virat Kohli now has 18 ODI centuries in successful run chases. Tendulkar is second with 14.

44 - MS Dhoni has remained not out 44 times in successful ODI run chases. Jonty Rhodes is second on this list with 33.

189 - The 189-run stand between Kohli and Rahane is the highest third wicket stand for India against South Africa and the second highest stand for India against South Africa in South Africa.

268 - The previous-highest ODI total chased against South Africa at Durban was Australia's 268 in 2002. India beat that record courtesy of their successful chase of 270.

274 - India's highest run chase in an ODI in South Africa was 274 against Pakistan at Centurion in 2003. They chased 270 against South Africa in the first ODI, their second-highest run chase in South Africa.
