Sunil Gavaskar feels there is no rush to make Virat Kohli captain in all the three formats

Sunil Gavaskar captained India in 47 Tests and 37 ODIs

Legendary Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar feels Virat Kohli should not be rushed into captaincy in all formats. Kohli, who is currently the leader of the Indian Test side, is the top candidate to replace MS Dhoni in the other formats as well.

The lad from Delhi, who is currently leading his side Royal Challenge Bangalore in the IPL 2016, has been in terrific form this season  He is the leading run-getter in the ongoing IPL 2016 with 561 runs in just 9 games at an astonishing average of 80.14

Kohli also played brilliantly in the ICC T20 World Cup 2016 which saw India getting ousted in the semi-finals. He was awarded the Man of the Tournament award for his exemplary performances throughout the World T20 which saw him score 273 runs in just 5 games.

Even former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly had showered praises on the Indian batting sensation and according to him, the time has come to hand over the baton of captaincy to the talented right-hander.

Ganguly recently had said, “Kohli is getting better every time. He is probably the best in the world in terms of consistency. His mental energy, tenacity is unreal. His attitude on the field is superb. His record as Test captain has been good.”

However, another former skipper of India, Sunil Gavaskar believes otherwise. He said, "Virat should not be rushed into captaincy in all formats. Let him grow into this role. 2019 World Cup is far away, “reported NDTV.

The current limited overs skipper MS Dhoni’s career has been going through a turbulent phase since the last few months. Although India won the Asia Cup 2016, Dhoni was criticized heavily when India crashed out of the T20 World Cup. His captaincy came under huge scrutiny as some of his decisions went horribly wrong.

Dhoni-led RPS performed miserably

Even in the IPL 2016, Dhoni has had a terrible time.  His Rising Pune Supergiants have already lost 8 out of their 14 games and are currently languishing at the 7th spot in the table. They have no chances of making it to the playoffs.and several of Dhoni’s decisions have come under the scanner.

His decision to under-bowl his premier spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has received many brickbats. Even some of his bowling changes in some of the matches raised quite a few eyebrows.

Thus, there is a loud call from all corners at the moment to replace Dhoni and give the throne to India’s current poster boy Virat Kohli. But one of India’s all-time greats thinks otherwise. Mr. Gavaskar is not ready the join the bandwagon right now.

Virat Kohl-led RCB side is currently at the 6th spot in the IPL standings with 8 points in 9 games. They have to win at least 4 out of their last 5 games to have any chances of qualifying for the playoffs this season.

Sunil Gavaskar has blamed the bowlers for RCB’s poor show in the tournament. RCB's bowlers have been awful in the IPL this season. In all their nine games, they have conceded a total in excess of 170 .

He said, “Bowlers have let Bangalore down in IPL. Kohli is as good as his team.”
