Sunil Gavaskar survives dangerous car crash in England

Sunil Gavaskar

Former Indian opener and renowned commentator Sunil Gavaskar reportedly escaped “death” after his car crashed into another vehicle on the road.

The 69-year-old was on his way to London, the venue for the final Test involving England and India when the accident occurred. The recently relieved BCCI President was travelling in a Jaguar that rammed into a car from the opposite direction after his driver moved to the right. Persistent rain could be one of the factors contributing to the unfortunate incident.

The Indian great was accompanied by fellow commentator Mark Nicholas and London-based friend Chandresh Patel. He was reportedly seated by the left side of the back seat and none of the three suffered serious injuries.

Speaking on the life-threatening accident, Gavaskar thanked the Almighty for helping him survive.

"My God! God has saved us. There was torrential rain and our car was being driven very fast. Thankfully, no one was hurt although the accident was very, very scary,” he was quoted as saying about the incident.

All three of them continued their travel by taking a train as the car was heavily damaged.
