Suresh Raina feels biopics are inspiring, opposes Gautam Gambhir's view
In an era wherein biopics have been trending, India opening batsman Gautam Gambhir made a controversial comment stating that he does not “believe in biopics on cricketers” and urged the common folk “to do something for themselves and their country.” On the contrary, his former teammate, Suresh Raina, feels that biopics on cricketers actually inspire people. With the biopic on M.S Dhoni about to hit the theatres in a few days, the whole country has been waiting with bated breaths to witness the ‘rags’ to ‘riches’ journey of an ordinary man on the silver screen.
Previously, we have seen that films based on sports personalities such as Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Mary Kom, and Azhar have fared successfully at the Box Office, and it is needless to say that the upcoming film will easily surpass the earlier ones to due to the popularity the Ranchi-boy has gained over the past decade.

Raina is currently in Poland, working on his cricket academy, and feels that biopics reveal unknown stories about the cricketers. As per the reports published in the Hindustan Times, he said, “You never know the true story of why someone like a Tendulkar or a Dhoni became a cricketer. They too were simple just like anyone else, but they did something that made them famous.”
“When a biopic gets made on the life of a cricketer, people get to know the struggles they went through to become icons for the country and the sport. For me, I am more excited about Sachin Tendulkar’s biopic than Dhoni paji’s. I followed Sachin since childhood and I am excited to know what sacrifices he made in his life to be who he is,” added Raina.

The southpaw, who has played 223 ODIs for India, feels that the real life story of a cricketer can only be known completely if a film is made on them. Regarding the matter, the Uttar Pradesh batsman said, “No one knows the complete truth. Based on the interviews or whatever comes on the television, you only know about someone’s life in bits and pieces. With a biopic, a fan will know what goes behind the scenes and get inspired to do something for themselves and the country.”
