Suresh Raina becomes first Indian player to hit 200 sixes; Ashwin 6th ever to play 100 consecutive T20s

Representing Chennai Super Kings in the final of the ongoing Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20) match, against Kolkata Knight Riders, off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin became only the 6th player ever to play 100 consecutive Twenty20s for a team.

The five other players who have achieved the feat are Virat Kohli (Royal Challengers Bangalore), MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina (Chennai Super Kings), Ambati Rayudu (Mumbai Indians) and Steven Croft (Lancashire).

Suresh Raina

Suresh Raina, who started the match with 199 sixes to his name, has become the first Indian player to hit 200 sixes in T20 cricket. West Indian big hitter Chris Gayle leads the list of leading six hitters in the shortest format of the game with 459 sixes to his name.

The 27-year-old is also the only player to score centuries in all the following tournaments: Indian Premier League (IPL), World Cup T20 and CLT20.

While Ashwin didn’t have a great outing with the ball, conceding 26 runs in his 3 overs before being taken off the attack, Raina scored a stunning 109* off 62 deliveries to help the MS Dhoni-led team chase down 181 runs in just 18.3 overs.

This is the Super Kings’ second CLT20 title after winning it for the first time in 2010.
