What’s the story?

The newest face in the Indian T20I setup Siddarth Kaul is visibly elated at this step up and believes the entire scenario will fell surreal.

"I just switched on my phone and bhai (Uday) called to tell me the news. It is a surreal feeling. I am just answering calls now," Kaul was as quoted by Times of India.

Kaul's performance in the ongoing IPL has been formidable and along with Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Rashid Khan, he has made the SRH bowling attack the best in the tournament.

The details

Kaul also spoke about the pitches in England and hoped that his bowling suits the surface as this is his opportunity for him to win matches for his team and country.

However, he further added, that he is not looking too far ahead and that his focus remains the IPL and that he wants to continue the good work for the Sunrisers.

The Punjab-boy was gracious enough to acknowledge the impact of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and said that he believes Kumar is the smartest bowler in the world which makes him an inspiration for him.

In case you didn’t know…

Siddarth Kaul was included in India's limited-overs squad for the tour to England when the selectors announced the squad on Tuesday, May 8.

He had also earned an ODI call-up a few months back but could not break into the playing XI.

What’s next?

SRH have all but sealed their spot in the playoffs and Kaul's performance has been a key cog in their campaign so far.

However, he has to keep up with the good work going forward and then take his form over to England where he will face competition for places from Bhuvneshwar, Bumrah, and Umesh.

Author’s take

It is indeed heartening to see performances in the domestic set-up being noticed and one has to praise the selection committee for maintaining consistency in the process and for rewarding players for specific formats based on how they turn up in the domestic season.
