Surrey signs Glenn Maxwell for Friends Life T20

Surrey have signed Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell for their 2013 Friends Life T20 campaign. Maxwell, 24, has abundance of experience as he has played for the Melbourne Renegades, Melbourne Stars and Mumbai Indians.

He has also played nine T20 games for Australia, and last season also featured in FL T20 for Surrey’s rivals, Hampshire Royals.

A strong hitter and athletic fielder, Maxwell is considered a T20 specialist and will complement a batting order that already boasts of cricketing legend Ricky Ponting along with many hard-hitting Surrey batsmen.

Maxwell is all set to make his Surrey debut at the Ageas Bowl against his former team Hampshire Royals on Wednesday June 26th, while his home debut will be a week later against the Sussex Sharks at the Kia Oval on July 3rd.

The all-rounder is scheduled to play the first seven of Surrey’s matches in the competition. His participation in the latter stages of the tournament will be subject to the make-up of the Australia A squad which will be announced next month.

Glenn Maxwell said of his team: “I’m thrilled about this opportunity and really looking forward to joining Surrey for the T20 competition. Hopefully we will enjoy some great success as a team.”

Surrey Team Director Chris Adams added on signing of Maxwell: “Glenn is one of the most exciting T20 players in the world and we are looking forward to him joining our squad for this year’s competition.

“As a big hitting all rounder and strong fielder he will be able to contribute in all facets of the game and certainly has the potential to provide a key performance.”
