Surrey signs Hashim Amla

Hashim Amla has signed for English county side Surrey

English county side Surrey has signed South African batsman Hashim Amla. Amla will figure in the club’s final six County Championship matches.

Alec Stewart, director of cricket of Surrey said

“It is great news because we have a world-class batsman and someone I hope will have an impact.”

Amla, the World No. 1 Test batsman, will join Graeme Smith and Ricky Ponting in the club.

“It’s something I’ve been working on for a while and Amla and Cricket South Africa have been quite outstanding in the way they have dealt with everything,” added Stewart.

Amla, who is one of the finest batsman in modern day cricket will add to the batting depth of the club.

“It is a great pleasure and honour to have been asked by Alec Stewart to play for Surrey County Cricket Club,” Amla said about the signing.

Amla, who scored 311 not out at the Oval last year, said that he has fond memories playing in the iconic ground.

“The Oval holds a lot of fond memories for me personally. I look forward to returning there this year and hopefully enjoying similar success,” Amla added.
