Sydney Thunders lose their 16th consecutive match and the controversial run out that wasn't

Brad Hodge of the Stars hits for six during the Big Bash League match between Sydney Thunder and the Melbourne Stars

Big Bash outfit, Sydney Thunders are on a wretched run of a 16 match losing streak which was extended by the Brad Hodge inspired show.

The 39-year old was the star of the show as he rampaged to an unbeaten 64, depositing the ball in the stands for fun. He along with David Hussey pulled off a remarkable run chase to compound the misery on their rivals.

The talking point of the match came when David Hussey was caught short of his crease after a direct hit at the non strikers end by Tillakaratne Dilshan, who was bowling to Brad Hodge. The new LED laden Zing bails lit up,  as it should when dislodged off their groove, following the firm strike on stumps. However, much to the disbelief of most in the stadium, the bails sat back on the stumps, and was subsequently ruled not out.

The novel concept of Zing bails that had been introduced in the Big Bash to provide more clarity with regards to decision making, ended up marring the match with controversy. The Big Bash League then issued an official statement, which might explain the freak incident.

Their official twitter account stated “A Zing bail is slightly heavier than standard wooden bail, but lighter than the heavy bails used in windy matches.”

Brad Hodge finished the match off with sublime shot making and showcasing why he is still one of the premier T20 players on the planet. The Sydney Thunders skipper, Michael Hussey deserves a special mention, who scored 66 of the best runs to help his side post a respectable 155 on the board, albeit, in vain.
