Taruwar Kohli hits fifth triple ton of season

Now, a century may be an amazing feat, but a triple century is something incredible. It was a typically uneventful Ranji Trophy match but that’s what Taruwar Kohli changed by converting his century into an unbeaten triple-century. This was in the quarter final match between Punjab and Jharkand in the Keenan Stadium at Jamshedpur.

Kohli made his debut for Punjab U-17 in the Vijay Merchant Trophy in 2005 and was part of the U-19 World Cup winning team in 2008.

Dinesh Mongia’s unbeaten 308 against Jammu and Kashmir in 2000-01, and Pankaj Dharmani’s 305 not out against the same opposition in 1999-2000 leaves Kohli’s 300 not out, the fifth triple ton of the season, as the third triple century by a Punjab batsman.

Punjab crossed Jharkand’s first innings total of 401 with ease, and went onto score 699 before declaring. The only tense moment came when Kohli was on 205 and uppishly drove Ishank Jaggi‘s medium pace ball. But luck was on his side as the Captain, Shahbaz Nadeem, dropped the straightforward catch.
