Team India - The real test begins now

MS Dhoni

Time is definitely not running in favor of MS Dhoni. With just one more stumping or a catch, he would have joined the elite club of wicket keepers with 300 dismissals in ODIs. But it was not to be – perhaps its destiny.

As a captain, he is throwing all his energies in chalking out strategies to counter the unabated game play of the South African team.  In fact, owing to the critical failure of his entire team, he does not have many options left. He has to effect radical changes in the current situation. Perhaps, bowlers from the U19 team need to be groomed.

The major damage has been done by the gross failure of R Ashwin. Also, against all the expectations, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has also failed to deliver. Umesh Yadav still has a lot to learn, he should understand that speed is not the only criteria for the success of a pacer – he is supposed to keep the line and length intact too. Ishant Sharma’s one good performance is not at all significant. He has got a pathetic bowling average of 37 in the test matches. It has now been established very clearly that Ishant is past his prime and unfortunately has lost his rhythm. Basically all our bowlers have seemingly lost their confidence and the zeal to get wickets is clearly missing.

The only hope we have is Mohammed Shami. But as usual, he needs someone to support him from the other end – as pacers hunt in pairs. Even otherwise, it will not be conducive to put extra pressure on this honest and hardworking bowler, as stress normally results in distracted focus. This proposition will not prove fruitful for anyone.

Now let us have an overview of the other vital element – batting. Dhawan, Raina and Rohit have got be consistent and focused. Temptation to strike quickly without analyzing the depth of the bowling has been their downfall. It is least expected from these seasoned batsmen. Also, the level of confidence and self esteem is seen missing. Unfortunately, the fighting spirit which defines the current Indian team has totally vanished.

The team has not been able to adjust to the bouncy conditions, and have been unable to mount a challenge. The only option left is to play like a unit, sharing collective responsibility. In case everyone contributes his 100%, victory can still be achieved. A strong will power is the name of the game. Hopefully, Dhoni, Virat and Shami can inspire the struggling team India. They need some real inspiration. Tons of best wishes.
