Team India to travel to Sri Lanka without WAGS
The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken a decision on not allowing the wives and girlfriends (WAGS) of Indian cricketers for the upcoming Sri Lanka tour, reports ibnlive.com.
India team haven't played a single Test after the Bangladesh series which happened a month back. The board said that players had enough time with their families during a month long break. Virat Kohli will be leading the 15-member squad.
"Most of the players on tour are just coming off a month-long break where they had enough time to spend with their families. And we've decided that their wives will not be allowed on tour," a top BCCI official was quoted saying by the website.
The Indian team toured Zimbabwe recently, but all the senior players were rested following back to back tournaments - World Cup and Indian Premier League - continuous play. A second string team was sent on the Zimbabwe tour by the board.
Team director Ravi Shastri has been given permission to join the team late as he is currently doing a show for the Ashes series.
"Shastri will join the team a bit late as he is presently a pundit on a post-match show on Sky Sports for the Ashes series. He had informed the BCCI about it and as we finalised the itinerary a bit late, he had already taken permission to skip the early part," a BCCI official said.
India tour of Sri Lanka will start from August 12, where three Test matches will be played till September 1.
