The Ashes 2013 – 4th Test, Day 4: Broad takes six as England seal the series

Stuart Broad picked up six Australian wickets

Having resumed the day on 234/5, England were all out for 330. Australia’s bowlers, particularly Ryan Harris who picked four of the five England wickets to fall on the day, did their best to make sure England did not run away with the game.

Ryan Harris dismissed both Bell and Matt Prior of consecutive deliveries in an identical fashion, except the one that got rid of Bell kept a bit low. Bresnan and Graeme Swann scored some valuable runs towards the end to help England extend their lead before getting dismissed for 45 and 30 respectively by Harris.

Nathan Lyon picked up his third wicket of the innings to wrap up the proceedings as England set a target of 299. Ryan Harris was the wrecker-in-chief for Australia as he ended up with match figures of 9/187.

Australia got off to an excellent start with both the openers Chris Rogers and David Warner putting together a 109-run partnership before Swann accounted for Rogers, who missed his half century by a solitary run.

That wicket of Rogers opened the flood gates for the home team as Australia lost their remaining nine batsmen for just 115 runs. Broad picked up six wickets to take his match tally to ten as Australia were bundled out for 224. David Warner top scored for Australia with 71 off 113 deliveries.
