Australian coach Darren Lehmann believes David Warner’s return to the Australian Ashes Test side will boost their morale after his impressive performance in Australia A’s first unofficial Test match against South Africa A in Pretoria, where he hammered 193 in 266 deliveries.

The Australian cricket team, who are two down in the five match series against England, will gladly accept any kind of assistance they receive to breathe life back into the series and with Warner back in form, the left-hander’s return seems quite probable.

“He is not a certainty. He got 193 and played well, did exactly what we wanted him to do. We want blokes to make hundreds, and he’s ticked that box. We’ll have to look at the wicket and what we come up with in the top six. He could bat anywhere from one to six,” Lehmann was quoted as saying by Cricket365.com.

The 26-year old’s suspension for exchanging blows with English batsman Joe Root in a Birmingham pub during the Champions Trophy, ended on July 6 and Lehmann has made it evident that he will give him every opportunity to barge into the Aussie squad provided he can prove his worth.

However, Lehmann stood firm on his decision to rest skipper Michael Clarke, Shane Watson and Chris Rogers for the tour match against Sussex in Hove, which ended in a draw.

Speaking about openers Phil Hughes’ and Ed Cowan’s promising half-centuries in the three day Test match which concluded on Sunday, Lehmann said: “I would have liked them both to make big hundreds. When you get in that scenario you should be making big hundreds but they know that, we spoke about that. But they played well and got through some tough times.”

The third Test begins on Thursday, August 1 at Old Trafford, Manchester.
