IPL: The highest partnership for each wicket in IPL history
Ever since its inception, the Indian Premier League has seen some of the very best cricketers in the world try their hand in T20 cricket. It has seen many excelling in the format as well as many finding their way into international cricket.
Over the last 10 years, the IPL has seen many exciting matches and a numerous mesmerizing performances with bat and ball. It has also seen some tremendous partnerships. So far, there have been four 200+ partnerships, and nineteen 150+ partnerships in the history of the IPL.
Many partnerships in the IPL were record partnerships in Twenty20 cricket at the time and some still remain to be. So without any further ado, let's take a look at the highest partnership for each wicket in IPL history.
1st Wicket - 184 by Gautam Gambhir and Chris Lynn against Gujarat Lions at Rajkot, 2017
It was the third match of last year's IPL and Gujarat Lions were taking on Kolkata Knight Riders at Rajkot. Skipper Suresh Raina's 68 and Dinesh Karthik's 25-ball 47 propelled the Lions to a total of 183/4 in their 20 overs.
KKR skipper Gautam Gambhir opened the batting with Chris Lynn and both batsmen began smashing the GL bowlers in their own fashion.
Gambhir was smashing boundaries in quick succession while Lynn was smashing fours and sixes in regular intervals. Both players reached their fifties and chased down 184 with more than 5 overs to spare.
Gambhir ended with 76 from just 48 balls while Lynn smashed 93 from just 41 deliveries. The duo's partnership bettered the 167-run partnership between Chris Gayle and Tillakaratne Dilshan against Pune Warriors India in 2013 and is currently the highest opening partnership in IPL history.
