The whistles are back and so is the skipper!
The term 'whistle' was earlier used for a high pitched sound but the term has changed radically in the past ten years. Since the arrival of the Chennai Super Kings, the term has had a new meaning altogether. In 2008, the Chennai-based outfit bought Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the auction and they fetched scads of fans right away. The name MS Dhoni became popular instantaneously after the young skipper led India to the title in the inaugural T20 world cup. Dhoni now had the reigns of an IPL franchise with millions and millions of fans ready to support their side gracefully, the hopes were already high because of one certain name.
The veteran skipper was at his work straightaway taking the franchise to the finals in the first edition of the tournament. Since then, they have been the best franchise by far. Their worst performance came twice when they reached the semi-finals, on all other occasions the men in yellow have managed to reach the finals. They have captured the prestigious title twice and have been finalists on four occasions. The suspension of the franchise in 2016-17 witnessed wrath among the fans but had a trivial effect on the devoted fans. The faithful supporters have always been behind the team despite their performance.
The last two editions of the Indian Premier League seemed tedious for the Yellow Brigade with former CSK players representing other franchises. The dismay was caused by a few franchise owners who wanted young blood to run their side instead of a vastly experienced proficient player who had managed to bring about the best combinations for his previous franchise. MS Dhoni's batting suffered a dull in the previous edition of the tournament where his average slumped to 26. Now, the whistles are back and the skipper is back to where his heart belongs. Like a lion wouldn't fit at a small flat in Pune, Dhoni wouldn't fit at any franchise except his own.
The fan connect has always been special and it is clearly indicated when the MA Chidambaram Stadium is covered in Yellow with people wearing the number seven jerseys in every other corner of the stadium. The fans will be hoping for glory once again as the owners look to rebuild their side in the auction. The team will be made of emotions, the owners will try to buy back players who have represented the Kings in the past. The fan connects need to remain. Amidst all these players the eyes will remain on one man who will be jumping up with joy at the thought of coming back to his second home, Chennai. The arrival of the yellow brigade will fill the fans with sheer delight and history will be rewritten as 'THALA' steps in the field for Chennai again.
