Tainted players still playing in the IPL, says member of the Mudgal Committee

Sreesanth's claims stand vindicated

Days after the Kerala High Court imposed a lifetime ban on S Sreesanth, another round of controversy has erupted surrounding fixing in the Indian Premier League.

Sreesanth had gone on record saying that there are other players in the league who were also accused but no action was taken against them. This particular statement has been vindicated by Niljoy Dutta, one of the advocates in the Mudgal Committee, who has now said that there are several players in the IPL who are still playing despite being pinned down with corruption.

"There are tainted players still playing in the IPL. Also, of the six players named in the sealed envelope, three are international players," Dutta told Republic TV.

"Also, one member of the Indian team did not fulfil his 'duty' to fix the match in Mohali and he was subsequently threatened by the Dawood-syndicate. A witness had got close to the suspects but such was the threat that she had to run for her life," the advocate further added.

Dutta also said that of the 9 players, 3 were exonerated but their names remained in a sealed envelope. However, there were no proofs against those players, but for some reason, their names are still kept under wraps.

Owing to the directives of the Supreme Court, Dutta maintained that he cannot name the three players, who are still active. Having said that, the senior lawyer also said that he was puzzled as to why there was no SIT formed to look into the matter despite recommendations.

Apart from this, former Delhi Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar, who was the man responsible for busting the entire corruption racket, maintained that S Sreesanth is only playing to the gallery and that there are enough proofs against him.

Also, Kumar said that he is not aware of the other named players and that matter is between the Supreme Court and the Board Of Control for Cricket in India.
