This is one of the best sides England has ever produced, exults Moeen Ali
What’s the story?
England all-rounder Moeen Ali has come out and praised his captain Eoin Morgan for transforming the approach of England in the Limited Overs format. He also believes that this current team is the "one of the best sides England have ever produced”.
"Morgs came up with the idea that we would take the positive option and not be afraid. Sometimes you would play a big shot, get out, and have your head down in the changing-room, embarrassed, but he'd be like, 'No, no, that's the best way'. He'd rather we got out caught on the boundary than blocking. One thing we all know is that you get backed in this team," he was as quoted by The Sunday Times.
The Details
Moeen also spoke about how the team stepped out of the outdated model which plagued them in and around the 2015 World Cup and credited captain Morgan for giving them the belief to turn around their fortunes and be more expressive out on the field.
The all-rounder admitted that the system did indeed need a shakeup and it was provided by the captain and coach and the results are for everyone to be seen. He also spoke about the 'Hit the Lights Out' method which is one of the captain’s theories in which he wants the players to entertain people and have people love watching them play.
In case you didn’t know...
The transformation of the England side started after they were ousted from the 2015 World Cup. Eoin Morgan and Trevor Bayliss identified new players and gave them the freedom to play fearless cricket, an approach which has yielded bumper dividends for the team.
The impact of this change in attitude has been such that they have scored eight of their ten highest One-Day International (ODI) scores, and also boast of scoring 444 runs which is the highest score in the history of ODIs, against Pakistan in the last season.
What's next?
As the cricketing world braces for the ICC Champions Trophy which is slated to be held in England, the hosts certainly look one of the strong favourites to clinch the title.
They will take on Australia, Bangladesh and New Zealand in the Champions Trophy group stage and this group by no means is an easy one to start proceedings. Owing to the expectations the team will move across to Spain to train and gel under coach Trevor Bayliss before the gruelling action commences.
Author's Take
The opinion of Moeen Ali is not a shout in oblivion as the England team is one of the best in business in the Limited overs format and this is due to the fact that many of the players have their roles identified and they go about their job in a professional manner.
