Tiger Woods meets Sachin Tendulkar, discusses golf with Indian maestro

US golfer Tiger Woods (C) arrives at the International airport in New Delhi on February 3, 2014. Tiger Woods is making his first visit to India and will compete February 4, in an 18-hole corporate outing at the Delhi Golf Club.

Legendary US golfer Tiger Woods arrived in New Delhi on Monday for his first visit to India, where he is scheduled to play a round with special guests at a private event at the Delhi Golf and Country Club organised by Hero Motor Group.

The event is closed to the public and the media as revealed by a club official.

“I am afraid this is a strictly private affair. Even regular members will not be allowed in unless they have been invited,” a club official told AFP.

The 14-times major winner will be playing alongside Indian golfers Shiv Kapur and Arjun Atwal and also Hero Motors boss Pawan Munjal. Atwal is a long-time friend and PGA Tour colleague of Woods.

Woods met cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and his family on his arrival at Delhi at a five star hotel.

Sachin has been an avid follower of golf after taking retirement from all forms of cricket in November last year. He was in conversation with Tiger about his own experiences in the sport and told him that he wanted to take it forward seriously.

It has been suggested that they had a brief discussion on golf’s growth in India as well. Woods was happy to be in India as this was his first experience.

When asked what he expects from his trip to India, Woods said: “I don’t know. I have never been. This will be my first time so it will be fun. Then I will head back home to see my kids.”

Woods has reportedly been paid a seven figure fees for the visit.
