TNPL 2016: Chepauk Super Gillies vs VB Thiruvallur Veerans Match Preview
VB Thiruvallur Veerans and Chepauk Super Gillies will aim to end their league engagements with a win as they face off in their last game of the India Cements TN Premier League at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Monday.
Both teams enter this game on the back of morale-boosting victories and will aim to finish with ten points. Gillies especially are a confident lot thanks to their resounding 55-run win against Madurai Super Giants.
Even Veerans, who won a high-scoring thriller against Lyca Kovai Kings, moved up to third in the points table. Gillies, who are peaking at the right time, will bank on Thalaivan Sargunam and Gopinaath to give them a superb start at the top.
Also, the form of skipper R Satish and Vasanth Saravanan has been crucial for the Gillies’ fortunes in the tournament. They also will bank on Yo Mahesh and Anthony Dhas to hit form with bat and ball respectively.
Dhas, who has proved to be the find of the tournament, has picked up ten wickets and was a key factor in Gillies’ earlier wins. Even Sathish has led by example as he performed well with both bat and ball. Gillies seem to be a well-rounded unit as everyone has chipped in with runs to set up good totals.
Veerans on the other hand are one of the youngest sides in the tournament and have played impressive cricket. But they have been over-reliant on skipper Baba Aparajith who has scored 293 runs in the tournament so far. Also, Kavin and Hari Nishaanth have played well in patches and will hope to score more runs.
Even the likes of Malolan, Chaturved and Sanjay Yadav have been exceptional, and R Rohit, who has eight wickets in the tournament so far, will be expected to perform well. And the experience of Malolan and Rahil Shah has also been invaluable.
Key Battles: It will be a tussle between the two skippers as R Satish’s bowling will test Baba Aparajith’s batting to no end.
