TNPL 2016: Didn't want to waste any deliveries, says man-of-the-match Aparajith
Baba Aparajith, captain of VB Thiruvallur Veerans, and the Man of the Match in today’s game against the Ruby Kanchi Warriors, addressed the media after his team’s 42-run victory in the India Cements Premier League match at the India Cements Limited Ground, Sankarnagar, Tirunelveli on Monday.
How was it playing against your brother as a captain for the first time?
It was a nice feeling, but it was challenging as well. It was a good game and I enjoyed being a part of it.
Did you look to attack early on in the innings because you had lost an early wicket?
I wanted to have a good intent and when there is intent, I think everything falls into place. I didn’t try to do anything extraordinary.
How did you manage to stay busy throughout your innings despite the heat?
Nowadays, it is very important to stay hydrated. I was going after the boundaries, but I was also looking to take singles to get off strike. I didn’t want to waste any deliveries.
Where would you want to take your career from here? These two innings (against Karaikudi Kaalai and VB Thiruvallur
Veerans ) are obviously very important for me. But at the same time, it is vital for me to have a very good first-class season as well. I feel I need to prepare myself well and have the same mindset for the Ranji Trophy season as well.
How do you switch between formats?
It is not very difficult because nowadays we have to be professional enough to adapt between formats. And that is what I am looking to do as well.
Are Veerans dependant too much on your batting?
They will come good, though they haven’t shown form yet. Sanjay Yadav has been doing well for us in the middle order. There are some other players as well and I hope they will come good in the tournament soon. We need to have one good game in the tournament. We have three more games to go.
