TNPL 2016: N Jagadeesan and R Sai Kishore involved in an ugly spat

Super Gillies won a close game against Dindigul Dragons

Chepauk Super Gillies beat Dindigul Dragons by 6 runs in a thriller at the NPR grounds at Natham, Dindigul. With this win, Gillies ended Dindigul’s unbeaten run in the tournament.

The visitors rode on a 144-run opening partnership between Thalaivan Sargunam and KH Gopinath off just 16 overs before MS Sanjay took four wickets and restricted them to 172-6 in 20 overs.

In reply, the tournament’s leading run scorer Jagadeesan Narayan started the chase in great fashion before his team lost their way in the middle overs. Indian off-spinner R Ashwin and Rising Pune Supergiants leg-spinner M Ashwin brought their team back into the match.

With 7 needed off the last 2 balls, Ashwin holed out to Gowjith Subash off D Tamil Kumaran for a 23-ball 49. The bowler kept his calm and bowled a great bouncer off the last ball to deny Dindigul the win. Gopinath was declared Man of the Match for his 53-ball 76.

But the play of the day goes to an ugly spat between Gillies spinner R Sai Kishore and Dindigul batsman Jagadeesan Narayan which had Dindigul skipper R Ashwin intervening to get things under control.

During the Dindigul innings, Sai Kishore dismissed Jagadeesan Narayan caught by Antony Dhas at short third-man for 60 off 53 balls. Both the batsman and the bowler exchanged few words and the verbal argument turned physical when Kishore pushed Jagadeesan in front of Dindigul skipper R Ashwin.

When Jagadeesan tried to give it back to Kishore, Ashwin asked Jagadeesan to leave the place and took things into his own hands. He was furious at Kishore as Thalaivan Sargunam and Gillies’ skipper R Sathish came in to calm the Indian offie down. Ashwin, later went into the huddle in which the Super Gillies were celebrating the wicket and gave a piece of his mind to the bowler.

The representatives of both the teams at the post-match press conference played it safe by saying that both the players are still young and the incident happened in the heat of that moment.

It is almost certain that the match referee will take a look into this issue and might reprimand the players for their act.
