TNPL 2016: Ruby Kanchi Warriors opening batsman speaks about the crowd support

Ruby Kanchi Warriors opening batsman Nilesh Subramanian spoke exclusively to the India Cements TN Premier League website after his team’s 42-run loss to the VB Thiruvallur Veerans at the India Cements Limited Ground, Sankarnagar, Tirunelveli, on Monday.

What are your thoughts on today’s match?

It was a good wicket to bat on, but we bowled badly. We bowled a lot of loose deliveries and gave a lot of runs in the middle overs. In the end, they played well.

Was the target chaseable?

We could have chased this down because we had a good start. We scored 90 runs in the first 10 overs, and that is a good score when you have nine wickets in hand. But somewhere down the line, we faltered. After me and Inder (Baba Indrajith) got out, someone should have taken responsibility and finished the game.

You are an opening batsman and a wicketkeeper. There is another opening batsman and a wicketkeeper who is doing well (N Jagadeesan). Is there any competition?

Jaggi (Jagadeesan) has been in outstanding form and he is playing some really good cricket. I am admiring the way he is playing nowadays. But I hope I hit some form, so that I can compete with him. If I get some runs, it will be a good competition.

What are your plans for the rest of the tournament?

If we win the next three games by a good margin, we can still qualify for the play-offs (semifinals). But it is important to win by a good margin. But we will be looking to take it one game at a time.

What do you have to say about the grounds and the turnout?

We played the first few games in Chennai and the crowd was exceptional there. More than 10,000 people watching you play is a good feeling. The districts aren’t far behind as well when it comes to the crowd support factor.
