TNPL 2016: Sticking to basics is the best ploy on good batting wickets, says Madurai Super Giants' SV Muruganantham
SV Muruganantham of the Madurai Super Giants ended up on the losing side despite his fine four-wicket haul against Dindigul Dragons at the NPR Ground on Saturday. His clever leg-spin forced batsmen to take unnecessary risks and helped him get crucial wickets. He spoke exclusively to the website of the India Cements TN Premier League.
Did you have a plan for Jagadeesan Narayanan?
He played a very good innings but was unlucky not to have adequate support. He did well to keep going till the 16th over and his efforts helped Dindigul reach 142. My plan was to bowl in the right areas and ensure that he (Narayanan) found it difficult to hit the good deliveries. I simply stuck to the basics.
What was your plan during that crucial 16th over?
We made a good comeback in that over given the way they were batting early on. Though they could have had put a lot more on board, we did well to restrict them. We could have even won the game if we had at least two batsmen who would have stayed on till the end. I believe we had a good game.
How was it playing in front of this crowd?
This is the first time that I have played before such a huge crowd. I want to thank India Cements who gave us a chance to play in this tournament. Also, I would like to thank the team owners who believed in us and selected us during the player drafts.
How do you think the wicket played out?
It was a good batting track which made life easy for batsmen from both teams. The best ploy on such wickets is to stick to the basics and bowl the right line and length which will stifle the run-flow.
