TNPL 2016: VB Thiruvallur Veerans and Ruby Kanchi Warriors captains speak after an exciting game
VB Thiruvallur Veerans R Rohith addressed the media after their side defeated Ruby Kanchi Warriors in their India Cement TN Premier League match in Sankarnagar, Tirunelveli, on September 5.
Was it easy for your bowlers after setting a target of 200?
Two hundred was a very good score on this wicket. It was a little easy for us as we followed our plan.
Do you think the side is over-dependant on B Aparajith?
No, I don’t think you can say that. Even without him, we have won a match. His arrival is a positive, but even without him the team has gelled well. It was a team effort and not a one-man show. We have a lot of young bowlers and they are all doing well.
What was your preparation for this wicket?
This wicket seemed good for batting, but if you stick to your plans, bowlers can also do well in T20.
What was your strategy today?
The wicket was slow, so I bowled a few slower ones and that gave us an advantage.
Ruby Kanchi Warriors skipper Baba Indrajith addressed the media after his side’s loss to the VB Thiruvallur Veerans in the India Cements TN Premier League on September 5.
Where do you think your side lost the match?
I know the boundaries are small, but on any ground, chasing 200-plus is not easy. The openers gave us a good start, but maintaining a 10-run per over rate is not easy at this level. I think the 145-run partnership for (VB Thiruvallur) made the difference.
What was your intent going into the second innings?
We were positive. In the first three games, we didn’t bat really well. We wanted to get a good start. At the same time, we wanted to consolidate as well. We didn’t want to go bang, bang, bang but to take the singles and twos as well. But it’s very difficult to chase a score when the required rate is 10-plus.
How was the wicket today?
I thought the wicket would be very slow, but then it wasn’t so. If you see the other games, they scored only 120 or 130 and teams were finding it difficult to chase down those targets itself.
But I guess this was the wicket where they scored 200 (Lyca Kovai Kings had scored 199 against Madurai Super Giants). So it wasn’t very bad, and it turned out to be nice for VB to bat first.
Did your brother's presence in the opposite team play on your mind?
Before the game, it was interesting. I was looking forward to playing this game because it’s not very often that we play against each other. Other than that, on the field we are both professionals, and it wasn’t different for me.
Where do you think your team went wrong?
They showed very good intent in the beginning after losing a wicket in the first over. But we bowled too many bad balls in the beginning and that’s where we lost the game.
The boundaries are small and when you bowl a good ball itself there’s a chance to get hit. But when you bowl too many bad balls, there’s more chance of you getting hit.
