TNPL 2016: We struggled to get partnerships going, says Chaturved
Could you describe the wicket as it was the first match in Tirunelveli?
The wicket was good actually all through the forty overs. It just got slightly slower but we had it covered. The wicket was playing well.
What went wrong with your strategy today?
Basically, we struggled to get the partnerships going. If you see them they had a very good opening stand. Basically, we didn’t have partnerships which are needed in a good run-chase like this. Chasing 164 runs is dependent on a few partnerships, which we did not get. That is basically what went wrong in our batting.
Was it possible to chase this target?
Yes, like I said earlier, 164 was definitely gettable. But we did not have partnerships. For a total like this, partnerships are crucial. We also had an important cameo where fifty runs were scored of thirty odd runs. Because we didn’t have partnerships we weren’t able to chase it.
Do you think some errors in the field cost you the match?
That is one area where we did not do well today. They were 110 for no loss and we restricted them to 160. Had our fielding been better and if we took our chances we could have restricted them to 140 or 145, which was very gettable total on this wicket.
Do you think it was a wicket you should have batted on first?
We can’t blame the toss. We are ready for both. In the first match, we chased 165 and won and in the second game we defended a score after batting first. I think we are a very balanced team and open to both.
