Top 5 biggest sixes of IPL 2024 ft. MS Dhoni
IPL 2024 ended on Sunday, May 26, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Fans witnessed a lopsided game between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad, where KKR crushed SRH to become three-time IPL champions.
SRH were the most destructive batting side of the tournament, but they managed just 113 runs with the willow on the day it mattered the most. Abhishek Sharma, who won the Super Sixes award for hitting 42 maximums, ended up losing his stumps to Mitchell Starc after scoring just two runs on the night of the final.
It was not a happy ending for the six-hitting experts, but they entertained the fans a lot during the league round. Speaking of six-hitting, here's a list of the top five biggest sixes of IPL 2024.
#5 Venkatesh Iyer - 106m vs RCB, Match 10 of IPL 2024
Royal Challengers Bengaluru hosted Kolkata Knight Riders for a game at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on March 29. Virat Kohli's half-century helped the home team set a 183-run target for their opponents.
Venkatesh Iyer scored a fine fifty to ease the chase for KKR. He hit three maximums that night, with the biggest one being the 106m six against Mayank Dagar. Mayank tossed the ball on middle and leg. Iyer was ready as he danced down the track and smacked it out of the ground over wide long-on.
#4 Nicholas Pooran - 106m vs RCB, Match 15 of IPL 2024
Just three days after Venkatesh Iyer's blitzkrieg, Nicholas Pooran came to the M Chinnaswamy Stadium to trouble RCB. Playing for Lucknow Super Giants, Pooran smacked an unbeaten 40 to help his team reach 181/5 in 20 overs.
Pooran destroyed Reece Topley in the 19th over, hitting a hat-trick of maximums. The third one was the biggest as Pooran picked the slower one and dispatched it over the midwicket boundary for a 106m maximum.
#3 Heinrich Klaasen - 106m vs RCB, Match 30 of IPL 2024
Sunrisers Hyderabad's Heinrich Klaasen also hit a 106m six against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. It was at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, as well against Lockie Ferguson's bowling.
Klaasen hit a quickfire 67 that night. Just before losing his wicket, Klaasen sent a ball from Ferguson over the roof at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. It was in his arc, and he sent it out of the park.
#2 Dinesh Karthik - 108m vs SRH, Match 30 of IPL 2024
Later in the same match, Dinesh Karthik smashed a 108m long six. Karthik played a counter-attacking knock of 83 runs from 35 balls, which eventually played a big role in RCB's qualification.
Karthik's innings consisted of seven sixes, one of which came against T Natarajan in the 16th over. Karthik smoked that delivery bowled on his pads, and the ball hit the roof and came back. Unfortunately for Karthik, his efforts ended in a losing cause.
#1 MS Dhoni - 110m vs RCB, Match 68 of IPL 2024
MS Dhoni played his last match of IPL 2024 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He scored 25 runs in that game, including a gigantic 110m six against Yash Dayal.
Yash could not grip the wet ball and ended up bowling a full toss. The CSK wicketkeeper sent the ball flying outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium over the fine leg region for a 110m six. It looked like Dhoni would help CSK qualify, but Dayal made a fantastic comeback to take RCB to the next round.
