Top 5 Forgotten T20 Players

Let’s take a look through the top 5 T20 batsmen who started their career on high note but ended up nowhere:-

Robin Uthappa

Robin Uthappa is the first Indian batsmen to score a fifty in an international T20 match. He achieved this feat by scoring a brilliant 50 under pressure against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup in South Africa. Robin Uthappa is famous for hitting the ball outside the ground against any quality bowler. Uthappa has played 70 matches in IPL and has scored 1538 runs at an average of 26.98, which is fairly good for a T20 batsman. In a match against Kings XI Punjab, he scored a 21-ball 50, indicating his presence in World cricket. Being such a powerful hitter of the ball, he under-used the chances that came to him. If we look at his last 5 domestic matches, he has scored 346 runs at an average of 69.2, which is apparently not enough for the selectors to select him for the Indian squad.

Uthappa’s T20 stats:-

Manish Pandey

Manish Pandey is the first Indian batsman to score a century in IPL. He achieved this feat by scoring a brilliant 114* against Deccan Chargers. With this brilliant knock, he became one of the most deserving batsmen to represent India in T20s. Manish Pandey has played 41 matches in IPL and scored 809 runs at an average of 30.4. Manish Pandey was also part of India’s U-19 World Cup winning squad in 2008. If we look at his last five domestic matches, he has scored 209 runs at an average of 41.8. He has good batting technique, but he consistently under-performed in the IPL which kept him away from an Indian T20 cricket team appearance.

Let’s take a look through Manish Pandey’s  T20 stats:-

        MATCHES            RUNS        AVERAGE               HS

Agarwal scored 432 runs in the under-19 Coach Behar Trophy at an average of 51. He was the leading run getter for India in the U-19 World Cup in 2010. He was adjusted Man of the series in Karnataka Premier League in 2010. In 2012 IPL, Mayank Agarwal scored a 30-ball unbeaten 64 to give RCB a much needed win. With this knock he showed his presence in the T20 world. But he has failed to perform well in domestic cricket. If we look at his last 5 domestic matches he has scored 177 runs at an average of 35.4 which is very less compared to the top players. As a result he was consistently overlooked for Indian T20 side.

Manvinder Bisla

Manvinder Bisla played a fearless knock in the 2012 IPL to give Kolkata Knight Riders their first title win. With this performance, Bisla showed himself to be one of the most deserving candidates for the Indian T20 side. Manvinder Bisla started his career as a fast bowler but his brilliant powerful hitting made him into a batsman. Manvinder Bisla has played 22 matches in IPL and has scored 503 runs at an average of 22.86 which is fairly acceptable for a T20 batsman; he was also part of the IPL winning Deccan Chargers in 2009. If we look at his last 5 domestic matches, he has scored 123 runs at an average of 24.6.

Let’s take a look through Manvinder Bisla’s stats:-

Paul Valthaty was picked up by Kings XI Punjab as a backup for expensive international buys at the players auction in January and ut proved to be one of the best buys for them. Paul Valthaty has played 22 matches in IPL and has scored 499 runs at an average of 22.68. He was selected for the ICC U-19 World Cup in 2002 but because of an eye injury he was sent back. This was a major setback for his career. Since then, Valthaty has been trying hard to make it to the Mumbai Ranji side but he has failed to do so. If we look at his last five domestic matches he has scored 17 runs at an average of 3.4.
